Featured Plate of the Month
Ontario Provincial Police 100 Year Anniversary Plate This months plate comes along only once in a lifetime and marks the 100 year Centenary of the Ontario Provincial Police Service in 2009. The initial series of almost 600 plates were assigned during 2009 to all new black and white cruisers placed into service across Ontario. The total production run of these plates were numbered 001 – 999 and every plate shows a security based vertical hologram strip of the Ontario Trillium emblem down the center of the plate. A limited number of unissued plates recently escaped destruction and drew unprecedented response from law enforcement members and internal civilian personnel within the ranks of the OPP. The Superintendent and Commandor of Fleet Management Services made a very worthwhile and brilliant decision to offer the surplus plates as a charity fund raising campaign with donations going to the Canadian Red Cross Haitian relief fund. The result was an instant and unqualified success in granting a stay of execution for the plates and raising humanitarian aid while addressing the high demand for these unique and dedicated plates. A special thanks to Superintendent M.D. (Malcolm) Chivers at the Ontario Provincial Police General Headquarters Orillia, Ontario for extending the courtesy to provide and grant authorization to display and include this plate to capture a very special event in OPP history Bob Gammon, VA3RX |
